Closer to God

Photobucket

Do you have a consistent quiet time with God each day? My quiet time is always first thing in the morning (I am so glad that God looks at the inside and not the outside!) I wake up before my family does, and I wander out into the den where I snuggle into the sofa and read my Bible. Then, I ponder what I just read and I write it into my journal along with the days prayer requests and praise reports.

For years I have fought getting up super early in order to have this time with God, but I have finally realized that for me it is the best time to spend with Him.

It's a wonderful way to start off my day in the right frame of mind.

However, I've noticed that I have felt desperate for Him this week. I've wondered what was causing the longing that I was feeling in my spirit, since I have been faithful to have those quiet times lately.

Then it hit me, I've been so busy and had at least one other person in my presence for almost an entire week straight. I haven't had enough uninterrupted prayer time. You know, fellowship with my Lord. I was missing my Savior.

I've found that my relationship with my husband can work the same way. We can be together for a whole week but if we don't spend some time just sharing with each other or holding each other, then I feel lonely for him.

I was excited about this revelation because it has showed me that my relationship with the Lord is so much more than Bible reading and a quick prayer, it is a living breathing relationship - how cool is that!!

Sonya - You just always bless my heart. I understand exactly what you mean about that time with just you and your Savior.

During your quiet time tomorrow, remember my daughter Ashlie, who will be giving birth to her 2nd little boy tomorrow!

Sonya,

Yes, we all certainly need that special quiet time with the Lord and reading His Word. You are right. It just doesn't feel right when we get so into the busyness of life each day. We have to remember that He is our main focus and everything comes after Him.

I love your posts and enjoy spending time here.

Blessings,
Alleluiabelle

Each and every morning, I get up super early to be with our Father. On the weekends, I still get up early, but at 7 or 8 a.m. I CAN'T afford NOT to spend time with Him. Our days are just YUCKY if I miss this time. It has taken years but I praise God for His work in me and helping me to be consistent and persevere... Awesome devotional.

Mrs. Patterson 5 had some great posts awhile back about daily quiet time. Sometimes, we just can't have that one devoted time during the day--but, what about the small moments throughout the day?

I find that I need to reach out to God in various ways at various times. There is a time to be alone and quiet, but there are other times when we just need to reach out because we DO! And that does show relationship....not just one defined time for God!

Great realization.... Continue to be blessed in this week ahead.

What a great post my friend, spending time "quiet time" can sometimes be challenging. But we must find the time, I get other times that I share with him through out the day, but the one on one quiet~stillness time, must be found through out the day, I may not get it today, but I will get it tomorrow, he never leaves me nor forsakes me right?!! Then I need to never leave HIM nor forsake him as well.
Thank you for a great thought provoking and reminder, needed this today!

Have a beautiful and blessed week :)

My quiet time is first thing in the morning as well and there are many mornings where I find myself struggling because I really should get that load of laundry in so it could be washing while I'm with Jesus..or I need to lay out that roast for supper or turn the dishwasher on.
I totally understand that longing in your spirit--and aren't you thankful for it??
Blessings!!

The relationship is where it is at! When I wrote my post a while back on having a parellel relationship instead of having a intersecting relatinship, I thought about the husband/wife relationship too. Sometimes we are living together, but not intersecting. True in all of relationships - they all take a lot of effort. :-)

I agree. That's the best time is to start the day having "tete-a-tete" with our Lord. I always tell my son when he does his own devotion, always start and end your day with the Lord. It seems like everything is right off on a good start when we start having our private conversations with Him, before the pollutants [earthly cares] corrupt our minds. God bless.

Beautiful reminder. Just this week Russell and I are waking up early to devote ourselves to consistent time with the Lord. Please pray we can stay steadfast in it. I know it makes all the different in the world and yes, it is so wonderful that we can have a real vibrant walk with our Creator! WOW!!

You're 100% right - I've done the same thing on busy days...read the Word and prayed, but something was "missing". So I make the extra effort to just "be" with the Lord, and take time with Him. It's what we desperately need!

Blessings to you!

Sonya, while I am definitely NOT a typical "morning person" I cherish my early mornings with God. I also start my day out with Him and it makes such a difference.

How exciting to have gleaned a deeper understanding of your relationship with God and your husband.

Blessings
Mary

This year, for added accountability on this very issue, I began posting DAILY DEVOTIONAL entries . . .
