Come Here

I spent last weekend camping with my daughter and her youth group (For more information see my post titled, Crabtree Falls). While we were away, my husband was home with the other five children. He's a great Dad, so I never even thought twice about leaving him with the kids.

After I got home, I had a chance to talk with him about the weekend. He told me that he had some trouble with one of our kids. Apparently, every time he would ask this child to "come here", they would say, "why?" instead of coming. This became an issue and he got upset with that kid. After having a heart to heart with the child my hubby explained the importance of just obeying without always questioning.

He pointed out that if there had been a poisonous snake next to the child, and they had hesitated to come, they may have been in danger.

He said that he spent some time in prayer and God said to him, "why don't you just do what I ask of you without questioning?" OUCH! Why is parenting always about the parent!

I really appreciated the fact that he shared this with me. I struggle with always wanting God to give me a sign. I am always wanting to make sure that I've heard from God. I think, however, that God would rather have us just do the things we think He has told us to do, and risk making mistakes.

It reminds me of the parable of the talents. The steward who had one talent and didn't do a thing, saying he was afraid, is a disgrace! The others took risks and were a blessing.

May God help us to learn to step out in faith, the first time He calls us!

oh, we are all so guilty of not following what our Father tells us to do. Why do we not listen? I think most of us listen. We just do not follow in faith that He knows best. But wanting to question, Why?
thanks for stopping by my blog!

Isn't it true that God shows us through our kids. Wow. I Love when God does show us how we can grow. (as long as it isn't a painful change! LOL!).

I am working on a new bible study that focuses on listening to God and am enjoying it very much. May we all hear that sweet whisper of God leading us the right way.

Amen Sistah!!
Isn't it amazing how he shows us so much even through our children's actions. I love how your dear husband used the snake analogy.. *smile*. Thank you for sharing your heart with me on your visit to my blog. It's so nice to be able to sit, and visit with my sistah's once more now that the retreat is over I've missed you all.

Oh Sonya, Amen, Amen, Amen! God has been teaching me this lesson all year. I am such a planner that I realized that I was not really living a life of faith as there were no risks. I began praying that He would help me to be a risk taker and now I am smack dab in the middle of complete dependence on Him. I am really encouraged by your message today. Thank you!

Just today in my Bible study a mom shared how she is learning so much about God through parenting her children.

Hi Sonya, I just finished reading "The Fire of God's Love" by Bob Sorge. He talked about this parable relating to our love for God. Stating that the one who was afraid lacked love for the Lord. I had never looked at it that way before.

So reading your post about your child not obeying and the resulting talk from Daddy, reminds me of the passage that says if we love Him we will obey His commands.

The greatest parenting book ever (in my opinion) is "Shepherding a Child's Heart" talks about how we need to instill in our children a healthy fear of God's authority for their good (Eph 6:1)...so that things will go well with you and you will live a long life on the earth... Your husband dealt well with the situation.

It is hard as adults with God, as there is not an audible voice, we have to learn over time from experiencing God to discern His voice, but the voice of a parent is apparent =) to our kids!

I am with you on the parenting lessons. God has taught me about myself many times through my experience with my kids.
God bless your housefull!
