Are We Sponges?

I've alwasy heard that kids are sponges, just soaking up all the information that they can. What a true statement!

The question is, are we sponges for God? We are His children and in that place we should be soaking up all of the information that we can about Him and what He wants us to do in our lives.

I believe that we don't really outgrow being sponges. I see us as always soaking up something, be it good or bad.

The concern is, if you've been soaking up the bad stuff of the world. How do you replace it with the good things that come from God?

Think about a dirty sponge, you turn on the clean water and place the sponge under the flow. Does is automatically become clean? NO! You have to squeeze the sponge in order to eliminate the dirty stuff before it can become saturated with the clean water.

That is exactly what God has to do with us. If we have had too much of the world in our lives, He is going to have to squeeze us in order to get rid of the negative and fill us up with His word.

Luke 9:23 And He said to all, If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.

Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, in order to prove by you what is that good and pleasing and perfect will of God.

Romans 12:1-2 is one of my favorite
verses.

Replacing the things of God isn't easy but the outcome is amazing!

What a cute post - love it!

My sponges go into our dishwasher each night - to sanitize them. Squeezing, squishing, saturating and sanitizing...that's what we need the Lord to do with us!

Blessings,

This makes me think of a discussion my daughter in love n I had one day. But it was more about ways "the world" can rub off on us... ~ I really like your thoughts on being a SPONGE... good or bad.

Phew...I'm glad you told me that stuff was confetti!! I thought you were mad at me... LOL.

Thanks for stopping by - it's nice to meet you, too.

She Speaks must be a program similar to Class Seminar by Florence Littauer, which I attended in 2006.

This morning we had a speaker in our SS class arranged at the last minute and it seems by divine appointment. As I listened to him speak, I thought "I'm just a sponge soaking up every word." So much of what He said spoke directly to my current circumstances and I knew that God had arranged it. But later in the day I found myself discouraged and worried and not being able to shake it. I found myself crying and thinking how ridiculous that was. Then I cranked up some praise music and worshiped God alone in my living room and the worry and discouragement left me.

While reading your post I realized that I had been going through the wringing part. Very timely again Sonya. Oh and the two scriptures you quoted, our speaker also emphasized in class. Both of them!

OOOh yes great post, I would have to say I am a sponge thats absorbing it all. I can remember when I was the dirty one, and it was hard a brittle like, but I have been refreshed, and love to just be soaked in the word.

Amen, Loved it, and I shall keep this one in my head for the day as well

Have a great week
