Transformers

Photobucket

Sunday afternoon my husband and I decided to go to the movies and "preview" Transformers for our kids.

To be perfectly honest, it's a good movie but the adult content is just over the top and I'm not talking about the violence if you know what I mean. Why they feel the need to put that stuff in these movies is a mystery to me.

Anyhow, It had the usual plot. The bad guys - Deceptacons and the good guys - Megatron and the Autobots. The bad guys are planning to destroy the earth because they hate humans but the Autobots are protectors of the earth.

The head good guy, Optimus Prime is destroyed early on and then resurrected in the end by the human who is also the main character.

Ok, I'm trying not to give away too much of the movie to get to my point.

When Optimus Prime comes back he is weaker and not strong enough to destroy the head bad guy who is called, The Fallen. Several other Autobots - including a Decptacon who decided to change sides, bind together with Optimus to make him more powerful and quite a bit larger in order to defeat the enemy. I won't tell anymore so you can see the movie yourself.

On the way home I pondered my own life and all of the things I've been through over the years - both good and bad.

I feel like our past could represent the combined Optimus Prime at the end of the movie.

We all have some good and some bad (some by our choice and other's that happened out of our control) in our past's. Regardless of how it got into your life, it happened and it is a part of who you are.

Thankfully, if you are a Christian, your past sins are forgiven, but the consequences of those sins may still be present.

My point in all of this is that we cannot change the past, but we can take who we have become and decide which side we are on. We are a powerful force - which side are we fighting for?

"But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." (Joshua 24:15)

Thanks for the movie preview! You and your husband sound like us- we like to watch the movies ahead of time to see if our kids can watch it or if we can fast forward through some of the unneccessary parts-or if it just plainly isn't for kids.

I agree! I do not understand why they put some of the things they do in movies designed for children. Thanks for the preview!
Great post!
Amen..the past is in the past..lets journey on with our Heavenly Father and allow Him to use our past for HIS good will and purpose!

I sometimes wonder about the intent of some of these movies. When my kids were little they had "super heroes" or something like that. These cartoon characters assume roles that the Bible depicts Jesus as fulfilling.

Are these just harmless children's shows? I don't know, they may be. But having read some things about Hollywood, I am a bit suspicious of their motives. I wonder if they aren't sometimes trying to undermine the person and role of Jesus.

Hollywood has an agenda, and it isn't Christian or pro-American. I may be overly suspicious, but like you and your husband, Cheryl and I wouldn't allow the kids to watch these shows and we would't buy the toys or pjs that promoted them.

Good choice previewing this for your kids. That is good hands-on parenting which will bear much good fruit for your family. wb

We saw this movie last week, and I completely agree! There were scenes that were totally unnecessary! When we got home, my husband asked what that movie was rated because he even thought it was ridiculous. Honostly, I dozed during the big battle. The movie was good, but it was long and loud! I much preferred Night at the Museum 2, which we saw yesterday.

Thanks for your encouragement in your last paragraph. I needed that right now. (If you read my blog post from yesterday, you'll understand.)

Blessings, Leslie

Sonya,

My hubby and daughter love these movies just for the robots and their unique abilities to transform, much like we as Christians do when we receive Christ. We still look the same on the outside but on the inside, it's a whole different story!

Thanks for sharing that; comforting. I choose the goody side!

Some films these days are really not suitable for children. I like the old films where the actions were suggested and not played out graphically.

My boys now ages from 21 to 33- all loved the Transformers - the tv animated series-- and the action figures. I was always amazed how they could "transform" them into different things. Our 3rd son had a real talent for doing it quickly. He is now working on his PhD in computers--I wonder if there's a link?:)
Anyway- good idea to preview a movie for your kids. It is a wonder why they feel they have to throw all the bad stuff--so not needed.

I am glad that our Lord transforms our lives into something that He can call His own!

Thanks for this post!

Well I have no desire to see that movie but isn't it a shame that you have to screen the movies these days before you let your children watch them.

Have you seen some of the recent TV commercials? Oh My Word. I saw one the other day that was nothing short of p@rn. Where is this world headed? Don't answer that, I know.
