Inspire by Example

In an effort to eliminate the winter doldrums that often settle in around my house in February, I made a mental decision to begin systematically de-clutter my house.

I decided to tackle the worst area first, and then go from there. I declared to my husband that I was going to clean out my linen closets (I have 2). He was excited because they had gotten pretty bad! Unfortunately, life got busy and I never got to my project.

I was feeling a bit discouraged when my oldest daughter, Brittany, came to announce that she had decided to clean out the downstairs linen closet because she just couldn't take it anymore! WOW! I was so excited that I hugged her, jumped for joy, and then re-committed to cleaning out the upstairs linen closet!

Here are the pictures of the closet before and both closets after being cleaned out. I even took 2 bags filled with linens that we didn't need to good will! Let's all lead by example - my daughter's example inspired me to complete the task at hand.

How's your linen closet looking???

A gal at our church started something called The Free Market out of a different church. She accepts things that people no longer need/want and offers them up to a poor community, served by the church, along with food pantry fixin's. They serve hundreds for 2 hours on a Saturday.

Ever since, I've been clearing out closets, drawers, playroom cubbies, kitchen cabinets, the attic and garage, etc., etc., and feeling lighter and filled at the same time.

What a great start for you...I hope you are encouraged to continue, and perhaps the rest of your family will join in the fun!

I just finished that project last month. It was about as bad if not worse than yours. I think in 13 years I never tossed away any pillow cases or sheets, (Just in case)! Yeah well I took all of them to our clothing closet at church and donated them to someone who can really use them. I just keep one set of winter sheets and one for our summers here in the desert! Everything else was simply clutter!

I have to admit that I don't have a linen closet. I use my closet to store other things (like schoolbooks and things). I do have a couple of linen drawers in the hutch in my dining room. I needed to store something not to heavy in there so I store linens.

My linen closet isn't the problem. LOL! I'm working on the declutter process while my daughter tries to use my garage for her storage. There's something wrong with this picture. :)

I can relate. Before I became ill recently I had told my husband that I've got to clean out all the closets and get things out to people who need them.

Your closets look great! Your precious daughter is a wonderful leader. "Leading by example" wow! There are bunches of messages tied up in that one line.

God bless you Sonya and your family.

A little child shall lead them. LOL! No, really, it's your example that has taught her and she is now taking the lead in her own areas.

God is good. :-)
