Pour Out Your Hearts

Photobucket
Because I'm a Mom, praying for my children is a daily ritual. If you are also a Mom (or a Dad)than you know what I'm referring to. Have you ever wondered what the Bible had to say about praying for our kids?

Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your children. Lamentations 2:19 (NIV)

I find this verse to be intriguing. Most of the verses I've found regarding prayer talk about rising up early to pray. This time, when it is referring to our children, it says to pray at night. Perhaps this is because they go to bed early and rise early. Or maybe it's because when we are worried about a child we can't find rest in sleeping. I'm not sure.

One thing is clear, though - we are supposed to pray FERVENTLY! Pouring out our hearts like water in the presence of the Lord. That means He wants us to tell it all to Him - every little detail.

Isn't it precious that God knows us so well. You see, as parents, when something is wrong (I mean really wrong) with one of our children it consumes our every thought and He want's us to know that He cares and He wants us to tell it all to Him.

He never ceases to amaze me.

PS. Chatty Kelly shared this verse with me this morning. Thank you Kelly! You are a treasured friend.

Yay - I'm so glad it touched you. I read it in Max Lucado's new book, Fearless, and I underlined it. I knew it was an important verse.

Hang in there!

LOVE this verse, Sonya (and Kelly!). Kids get us up early one way or another, don't they? ;)

My daughter woke me up at 3am this morning--she was experiencing a severe reaction to her ear-infection drugs. We wound up in the E.R. and I'm grateful, tSO grateful that she is much better now. God spared my baby.

Blessings, Sonya, from one thankful mom!

I've read Lamentations several times and have preached from it, but have never focused on this verse before. You can bet I will now! Thanks for calling this passage to our attention and the good lesson you drew from it. WB

I must tell you that as a step-mom, there is always a praying situation. A dying situation.

And this has me covered in God-skin.

Would you be receptive to allowing me to print this off and paste it on my bulletin board?

Lovingly,
Yolanda

Sonya,

I sat here reading your post and it suddenly dawned on me as mothers, just how often we are called to duty in the middle of the night to tend to our kids and whatever their needs are. Perhaps that is why we need to pray at night as well.

Your post reminded me of the song from about 10 years ago about a mother's prayers written from an adult son's perspective.

This a wonderful verse! My neighbor and I are starting a Moms In Touch group. We'll be meeting twice a month with other moms to pray for our children and their friends and teachers. I can't wait to see what God does with our group and in the lives of our kids!
