Resting

Exodus 20:9-10
You have six days when you can do your work, but the seventh day of each week belongs to me, your God. No one is to work on that day--not you, your children, your slaves, your animals, or the foreigners who live in your towns.

How are your Sabbath's going? Mine have been busy. I seem to allow my chores to pile up and I tend to spend Sunday's playing "catch up" so I'm ready for Monday. This is a bad habit! God broke that habit for me last week. I had planned to do so much and He had people stop by to visit and that took up my entire afternoon and evening.

I realized that He was serious about having us relax and enjoy our Sunday's so I had better get serious about planning ahead. I read that if you want to rest on Sunday you have to work backwards to get your chores done by Saturday night. This is true! This week I made sure the laundry was done by Friday. Then on Saturday, I cleaned house, went grocery shopping, and paid the bills. It was exhausting! But it was done. That left us wide open to pursue friendships or just relax at home on our Sabbath! It's worth the effort.

I want to encourage you to look at your Sundays and decide what you can do ahead of time to allow yourself to really find rest in the Lord on His day!

God Bless you this weekend.

Alright, the encouraging challenge is on! I am going to start my chores today and plan for a crock pot dinner on Sunday (to cut down on meal preparation) and we are going to worship and rest!

Imagine if every Sunday were open to rest, entertain guests...I can't even imagine.

Guess I need to step up to the challenge.

Great Post,
I have been doing the same, But I have figured this out, I have church on Sundays, so this helps me out alot, I go from 10am till 2pm, and then sometimes I have to take a nap especially after eating lunch. I have been trying so hard to do everything on saturday, sometimes like you say though, unexpected things happen.
Thanks so much for the reminder of Rest
Blessings to you, have a great weekend

Great post - but all of them are that I've read so far!

Thanks for visiting my blog, because now I'm getting to enjoy yours.

Love your template, too; did you design it?

I love to protect my Sundays so I can rest and do anything I want. I am glad you were able to enjoy your Sabbath.

By the way...you have an award on my blog.

Great job!

Great post. I too have discovered that He really does want us to rest. Ususally I do rest on Sunday's, but there are still times when I need this reminder. Thanks Sonya. Have a great weekend!

I actually had to stop having Sunday be my Sabbath over the summer. I wasn't going to worship, because I was teaching. I found that I needed a different day of the week to focus on Bible study and for reflection.

Now that my schedule changes, I'm hoping to make tomorrow the Sabbath again. And there truly is discipline involved in this; let's not kid ourselves. God may have created everything in 6 days and rested, but He could handle that kind of work. I can't always handle the kinds of weeks that I face....and, that brings up other issues :-)

Sounds like God is working in your Sabbath to grow your hospitality ministry...you may need to consider a separate time of rest for nothing. He'll guide you in that!

I guess I'm a rare bird - our family spends time with friends every Sunday and then afterwards we come home and chill. Naps included. :)

I agree wholeheartedly. While I don't like to get legalistic about the Sabbath I do think it's important, so important that God set the example in Genesis. A while back I really started taking the Sabbath seriously and it makes a huge difference in how I face the week.

We used to go to church in the morning and evening. Our current church doesn't have an evening service right now and we have an early and later service and we go to the early bird one. So that leaves most of the day in front of us to rest and relax. Hubby and I like to go on a date in the afternoon evening, but nothing too strenous.

I generally celebrate the Sabbath from Saturday night until Sunday evening, not always though. This gives me a chance on Sunday nights to get things settled for Monday and also to get my week's agenda ready and prayed over.

Sundays used to be just another hectic day where we happened to attend church, but now I truly view it as a celebration and I look forward to it so much!
