If you've been following my postings you'll know that my husband has started teaching our kids object lessons on a weekly basis. Last week he used toothpaste to show them how easily harsh words can come out of our mouths, but how it is impossible to take them back. Feel free to read about it HERE if you missed it.
This weeks lesson started with a raw egg. Each child had a piece of paper marked
15
30
45
60
and it kept going until 3 minutes. Then he put the egg in a glass bowl in the microwave. While they watched he turned it on and set it for 3 minutes. Each new time frame would come and they would write what happened. Nothing happened until after 1 min. 30 seconds. Then, all of a sudden, BOOM! The egg exploded. My kids about jumped out of their skin! LOL!!
Now came the lesson. The egg represents our hearts and the microwave is sin in our lives. When we sin, often nothing happens. That usually leads to another sin, and another. We think we're ok, and then suddenly, BOOM! We explode and our hearts become a mess!
Proverbs 14:16 A wise one fears and departs from evil, but the fool rages and is sure.
Proverbs 14:27 The fear of Jehovah is a fountain of life to turn aside from the snares of death.
Psalms 34:14 Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

I love it!! What a great lesson on sin. And that is exactly what happens too. You and your husband keep up the great work!
I can't wait to hear lesson 3
Have a great weekend

Oh yea, Please I would love to know the name of the book, Tell hubby to give it up!!! :)
share,share,share!!!
hahaha
And how do you demonstrate God putting our "egg shells" back together?! (LOL)
That's pretty powerful--and in less than 3 minutes!
Wow! I even did a little jump just reading about the Boom! What a great illustration!
Great lesson! What is the name of the book he's using? That example reminds me of a song I keep hearing on the radio that says, "It's a slow fade..." It talks about how people don't end up in the middle of blatant sin in a day. It happens over time.
Who had to clean out the microwave? LOL!!!
Great lesson!
I'm wondering the same thing as CK! That was great! Not sure I'll try it but it was great. LOL.
(off topic) Hi Sonya - I sent you an email with the code you need. Please let me know if you got it or if you need help with it. :D
O.k., so I was wondering the same thing too! You're a good mommy for letting him mess up the microwave. Hey, if it sticks in our kid's hearts, we'd let him mess up the whole house, right? LOL!
Sonja,
Your husband is the bomb! (Pun intended : )
Hey Ladies,
We put the egg in a glass microwave safe dish - WITH A COVER! So the mess was contained. :)
Psalms 34:14 Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
LOVE your blog button. That Edie does great work, and it is SO cute. Looks just like you with the big blue eyes too. :-)
A Contained Mess - there's a speaking topic in there!
