Are You Ready?

This was an exciting week for my youngest daughter. She had the chance to go to her aunts house for a sleepover! Her cousin (who is 1 year older) would be coming too! Oh the excitement. Oh the anticipation! Oh the preparations!

My three year old woke up that morning and got dressed, brushed her own hair and teeth and then disappeared for awhile. Upon returning she announced that she was ready to go.

As I walked past the front hallway, I saw the above picture! She had already packed her backpack (Of course, I had to repack a few things later - that's just between us) and then she placed the backpack, shoes and her blanket literally in front of our front door. This way, she was ready no matter when her aunt showed up to get her. You see, most three year olds cannot tell time.

I saw such an amazing spiritual analogy in this. I thought about the parable of the 10 virgins. 5 of them kept their lamps full of oil and their wicks trimmed while the other 5 became lazy and fell asleep. When the bridegroom came, he only took the 5 who were prepared. Here is what he said:

Matthew 25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

My precious friends, let us be the virgins who are watching and waiting. Just as my three year old didn't understand time enough to know when her aunt was coming to get her, we cannot understand God's time enough to know when He will come. But we can make sure we are always ready!

I love this parable. We were studying it at church a few weeks back.

Did she spend the night, or did you get the midnight phone call?

I hope she had a wonderful time!

Hi Kelly,

She's a people person and stayed the night without any trouble!

That is so great!

Very timely. That passage has been on my mind a lot lately.

It's funny what 3-year olds think are necessities. I've had to repack my son's overnight bag a few times too. I laugh everytime.

My first comment didn't post so let's try again.

Love the analogy and the picture really added to the whole effect.

One question: Do we have some sort of freaky brain connection that makes us think about the same things at the same time? See my blog.

I'm surprised she didn't try to take more things! How many stuffed friends can I bring with me?? HEE!

Yes, great analogy, and may we have such anticipation in our hearts!

What a great analogy. Yes, we must always be thinking in a Heaven-frame of mind.

It's a good thing you helped her pack, I can only imagine what essentials she left out!

Profound truth from ordinary life. Love it. I see life through a similar lens. Thank you for this post. I'm spurred on to praise Him!

She is up and ready to go!!
Loved the analogy, we should all be just as excited like the virgins. I also wanted to say what a beautiful family you have, that is a wonderful Christmas family photo.

Awww how cute is that! I love your spiritual analogy too. Looks like she will be ready.

What I see in this is a girl designed to plan and possibly organize.

Your question on my blog today about memorizing scripture was a God prompt. You'll understand when I do the post. :)

Hi Sonya! Yes your button will count. :) You have 8 entries. Let me know if you decide to do the post so I can be sure to add the other 7 entries.

Have a great weekend!

Hi Sonya! God bless you and your sweet little girl. That was an awesome analogy. She was wise enough to know that she should be ready regardless of when her aunt came by to get her. We too must be ready regardless of when He comes to meet us in the air. It's amazing how God speaks to us in everything throughout the day and it's so darling when He uses the babies to illustrate His word to us.

Blessings!

Isn't amazing how we are truly inspired and led by little children in our faith journey?

I find so many analogies like this with the three little ones for whom I nanny.

I recently preached on these verses and I really learned a lot about it. Very sage advice - then and now:-)

I loved this post. Thanks for the reminder to be ready at all times. Sometimes it seems that I end up being more like the sleeper than the one that is prepared.

The picture was such a great touch. I could just feel the anticipation.
